The Mystique Trance

He was walking briskly on dry, cracked earth. A long stretch of land lay ahead of him, covered with brown Chinar leaves. The land had many young, naked, white Chinars scattered around it. It was beautiful but there was some sort of fear around.
A little girl peeked from behind a chinar and smiled inviting him to chase her. She would run fast, laughing hiding behind a tree and then start challenging him again.
She looked familiar. He had seen her before but could not remember anything. He kept on playing with her like this for sometime, trying his best to catch her. He tried to run faster, the trees became denser, suddenly it grew dark. As soon as he reached near a catching distance she disappeared into the darkness. He wanted to keep running but his feet got stuck. Some high bass music began to play .It was a song he had heard often but he could not understand where the sound was coming from. The music continued for sometime, then he realised it was a dream and turned off his alarm.
He sat up,his face showed an expression as if he would burst into tears but somehow he seemed to have composed himself and went on with his day.
But ,later that day in his cabin, at the time when he often took a little post-lunch nap,he picked up his phone and unlocked it. After a few touches and many flicks he stopped at a picture.

Suddenly his heart beat rose. There she was. There was the little girl with a broad smile, short bouncy hair parted in the middle & big beautiful eyes.
She was dressed in a nice blue saaree,a black hand-bag in one of her hands and a little black bindi on her forehead. That picture was probably taken at a dress competition. It was her smile,so cheerful that it looked like she would start dancing anytime and jump out of the phone.

But her smile had a reverse effect on him.For a long time he kept staring at the picture as silent streams of tears rolled down his cheeks.
